Spring

We have a very exciting and busy term planned! Please check back regularly to see photos and videos of our learning in actions! 

 

๐Ÿ“– English- We use 'key texts' to support our writing and grammar skills. Our first text will be The Egg by P. M. Robertson. Then we are looking at Shackleton's Journey and Impossible Creatures.   

 

โž• Maths- We follow the White Rose programme of study. This term we learn: Ratio, Algebra, Decimals, FDP, statistics, area, perimeter and volume.  

 

๐Ÿงช Science- We complete one unit per half term. Spring 1 - Animals including Humans and Spring 2 - Spotlight on Science

 

๐ŸŽจ Art - Taught during the first half term is sculpture. We will be creating mobiles inspired by Alexander Calder. 

 

โœ‚๏ธ D&T - Taught during the second half term is textiles. We will be making drawstring bags that are decorated with sewn patterns. 

 

๐Ÿ’ป Computing - We will be learning about Programming using Scratch and beginning to use Spreadsheet. We take part in regular online safety quizzes to help refine our knowledge and designs our program of study based on knowledge gaps identified. 

 

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ MFL- We study Spanish from Year 3. This term we will learn to name different items of clothing and how to talk about different subjects at school.

 

๐Ÿ‘ PE -  Year 6 have 2 PE lessons a week taught by B2 coaching.

 

๐ŸŽถ Music- This will be taught by Mr Proctor on a Tuesday. We follow the Love Music Trust curriculum building on knowledge gained in previous years.  

 

๐Ÿงก PHSE- We follow the No Outsiders program, this involves teaching children about relationships in modern society through the use of stories. We will also learn about mental and physical wellbeing, linking this to our emotional literacy and PE knowledge.

Computing- making Scratch games

Over several weeks, we designed and coded our own catching games on Scratch. We had to use all our knowledge about variables and programming to ensure they run smoothly. 

Geography- renewable energy

We learnt all about different types of energy and when they were first used. We were surprised by how early wind power was created! 

Science- making blood

We used different household ingredients to replicate blood. We learnt how it is the red blood cells that turns the blood red and that the liquid in blood (plasma) is actually yellow!
