Home Learning Expectations
At Elworth Hall, we value our parents support in all that we do. Home Learning is to consolidate all that we do in school.
Reading: Year 5
The children in Year 5 use daily reading sessions to develop their comprehension skills. We regularly use the reading assessment tool from our reading scheme - Collins Big Cat to help teachers understand what level their pupils are reading at. This assessment explicitly assesses pupil’s instructional and independent reading levels using unseen, meaningful texts. Children are assessed by staff, as and when appropriate, to determine their book band. Children will bring home a banded reading book from school to read at home. Across school we use the Collins Big Cat Reading and Phonics Scheme.
The children are expected to read 5 times a week. This reading MUST be recorded in their reading records. These are checked each Monday and children will have the opportunity to change their book band book if complete.
Maths: Year 5
Year 5 children must continue to practise their times tables regularly at home. Times Table knowledge underpins a large proportion of the Year 5 maths curriculum. To support this, they will be set a weekly task relating to multiplication and division. This may be on MyMaths, TimesTables Rockstars or a paper based activity. It will be set on a Monday and checked the following Monday.
If you have difficulty accessing MyMaths or TTRockstars, please let Miss Bacon know as soon as possible.
