Autumn

The Multiplication Check (MTC) for Year 4 will take place in June 2025. The leaflet above explains all you need to know as a parent. if you have any questions, please speak to a member of the Year 4 team. 

We have a very exciting term planned. We will be covering the following units within each subject area:

 

English- We use 'key texts' to support our writing and grammar skills. Our first text will be 'Leon and the place between' by Grahame Baker-Smith. 

 

Maths- We follow the White Rose programme of study. This term we learn Place Value; representing and ordering numbers to 10,000, addition and subtraction; calculating with 4 digit numbers, calculating area and beginning Multiplication and Division; knowing and using multiplication facts up to 12 x12 . 

 

Science- We complete one unit per half term. Autumn 1 - States of Matter and Autumn 2 - Electricity 

 

Art - Taught during the first half term is portrait drawing inspired by Artist Marten Janson.

 

D&T - Taught during the second half term is electrical systems involving circuits and switches. 

 

Computing - We complete half termly e-safety quizzes which then designs our programme of study based on the cohorts needs. We also learn about 'The Internet' and how to create audio files. 

 

MFL- We study Spanish from Year 3. This term we will learn about Fruits and understand the verbs I am able to...

 

PE - Year 4 swim all year as one of their hourly PE sessions. In addition, they are taught Football and Tag Rugby by B2 Coaching. During Autumn 1, they will also be taught Cricket by Time to Shine Cricket programme. 

 

Music- Year 4 take part in the wider opportunities programme provided by The Love Music Trust. This involves learning about cultural music differences using percussion. The children learn to play three types of drums over the course of the year and apply their music knowledge and skills to perform to an audience at the end of each term. 

 

PHSE- We follow the No Outsiders program, this involves teaching children about relationships in modern society through the use of stories. We will also learn about mental and physical wellbeing, linking this to our emotional literacy and PE knowledge.
